The ads that you see on The Colonic are banners of brands that I like and want to share. They are not paid advertising. It would sicken me to have ads on my blog and see diet pills pop up and who knows what else.

Cheers.

Happy Belated Birthday to The Colonic

Things have been pretty hectic as I begin my second semester of law school, so I wanted to wish The Colonic a belated happy birthday. The Colonic turned 3 on January 9th and, as a parent of a growing blog, I feel very proud.

The blogosphere is both a very big and a very small place. There are so many blogs out there, and so many readers--so I just want to say that I have been deeply moved by all of my readers who have taken the time to visit my blog, share their personal stories, follow me on Twitter, join The Colonic Facebook fan page, and even send me emails. I actually just got a lengthy and thoughtful comment on Fat Rolls and Roll Models that left me feeling so happy that my readers are able to connect to my posts--and that I even have readers at all.

If you've been a reader for a while, or have fiddled around in my archives, you probably notice what I do--that my writing style has slowly evolved and is (in my opinion) a lot better and more mature these days. Unfortunately, law school has taken a toll on my posting frequency, and I hope that I can champion a balanced schedule and work ethic to prevent The Colonic from suffering greatly. But, just an FYI, the more I hear back from my readers, the more I get giddy about posting.

Thanks again.

Much love,
The Colonic

dear readers,

My blog is sort of like a personal journal in that the general themes of my posts mirror changing themes in my own life. While I always cover a variety of topics, one can definitely see concentration shifting from gender to sexuality to politics to atheism to environmentalism to veganism to food etc etc.

Well, beloved readers, we are at a crossroads once more. You see, I have moved to DC and am beginning law school, and cannot help but feel that my blog will take on more legal content.

Cheers to adventure

Love always,
The Colonic

my apologies

Dear readers,

The Colonic has been so backed up this past week! My deepest apologies--I always feel like I die a little bit inside when my blog falls behind. Right now I am in DC, and had such a terrific day lobbying with The Eating Disorders Coalition that I can't wait to share with you all. Just a little too exhausted right now. Thanks for the slack.

Love always,
The Colonic

ads

Dear readers,

You may have noticed that there are currently two ads that have been recently added to The Colonic. I would like to clarify that my blog does not include any paid advertisement, but that of my own good will and spirit, I have decided to advertise for certain companies/organization that I find to be of particular merit.

Love always,
The Colonic

P.S.
Some of my lovely readers have been emailing me articles that they think are up my alley. I really enjoy hearing from all of you, and please feel free to email me at thecolonic@gmail.com whenever you'd like.

my apologies

Dear Colonic readers,

It pains me that I have neglected The Colonic this week--I am just at my wits end in all facets of life at the moment, and my beloved blog is one of many things to bear the brunt.

Please be patient. I should be back up to speed shortly. As always, thank you for visiting.

Your friend,
The Colonic

Apologies for the meager blogging. I am in the midst of moving and job-switching. Ha, job. As if I'm paid.

Will be back on track soon.

Eating Disorder Awareness Week

The timing is perfect. After attending a congressional briefing entitled "Eating Disorders: Science not Stigma"--I made a commitment to amping up ED awareness on The Colonic and making it a strong and continuous focus henceforth--as opposed to a sporadic theme intersecting with other related concepts.

Then I found out that we are currently in the middle of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (February 24th-March 1st). What a fitting kick-off.

The key message for National Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2008 – “Be comfortable in your genes. Wear jeans that fit the TRUE you.” – ties into NEDA's signature event, the Great Jeans Giveaway.

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week highlights the fact that body size and shape are strongly influenced by biological factors – such as genetics, while also calling attention to some of the new discoveries surrounding the role of genetics in the development of eating disorders.

Too often individuals struggle against their natural, genetically influenced size just to fit into that pair of “skinny jeans” in the back of their closets. Fighting your natural size and shape can lead to unhealthy dieting practices, poor body image and sometimes eating disorders.

While you can adopt a healthy lifestyle and aim to be fit for your particular body type, you cannot change your genes. We want everyone to start feeling comfortable in their genes by wearing comfortable jeans. The Great Jeans Giveaway events empower individuals to donate old (or new) pairs of jeans that do not comfortably fit.

While key messaging focuses on helping individuals feel at ease with their natural size, the use of the word “genes” within the message also provides a foundation for addressing the fact that eating disorders are serious illnesses, not choices. Everyday, researchers are discovering more about the influence of genetics on eating disorders and finding that while environmental factors may pull the trigger, genetics loads the gun.

You can also find an event in your area or register to become a coordinator.

updating The Colonic

I am very proud to announce that I just added a counter to The Colonic. Sure, I have no record of the hits that I have already accumulated, but I am still really excited to gauge my traffic! I really like the site I used, so check it out if you need a counter on your blog. You can change the size, colors, placement, visibility, et cetera. It's fun.

Happy One-Hundredth, The Colonic!

Happy One-Hundredth Post!

I know it seems but yesterday The Colonic graced the blogosphere--but one-hundred posts later, there is no doubt that The Colonic has reached puberty, and I cannot help but stand proudly, much like a parent at a bat mitzvah.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, I would first like to thank my loyal readers. Aside from the instant gratification of unleashing my opinions into cyberspace, you remain a strong motivation. Big ups to Dr. Mack, who certainly encourages the growth of public intellectuals.

I believe I have shared my strong convictions to never biologically reproduce, but I cannot express my love for my mental offspring--my blog posts.

Now that I have done my song and dance, I would like to introduce the newest feature of The Colonic: a menu featuring my favorite posts (one of the perks of non-living children is picking favorites).

Dear readers...

I shan't lead you astray--the purpose of The Colonic is to cleanse, to get your shit out. Also fitting, The Colonic has a "No Bull-Shit" policy: one must be frank and analytical. I mean this both in terms of my posts, but also in terms of responses. For all of my readers, I would like internal irrigation for you all as well, and the comfort to be honest (but not hostile).

Although I ultimately hope to be a "well-rounded" individual, my posts and personality do have certain core themes. Of all my socio-political interests (because the personal is political), matters of gender tend to captivate me most. In fact, Freud-to-sex might not be entirely different from Vanessa-to-gender. I am fascinated with popular culture and current Western influence; however, we as a national and global collective only navigate to the present through the past, and therefore, history is of interest as well.

To make it clear, I do not believe in categorical binaries in terms of gender, or in terms of political parties--people do not fit in boxes. However, I am a social radicalist and you will find many "liberal" ideas here. Even so, the only ideology I subscribe to is Vanessaism, and hopefully, with a little reader-involvement, we can all learn a little Youism as well.
