Obama explains why he will not rely on public finance in the general election--because, in its current and "broken" form, it would not be good enough against pro-McCain 527s and the like. No argument here.
Although I disagree with the framing of "special interests" as something unique to Washington insiders and PAC money as inherently bad, Obama has undoubtedly raised his funds through a grassroots initiative that speaks volumes to his widespread support, and also to his ability to inspire political activity among otherwise latent and/or non-registered voters. In fact, I do not think there is any better way to raise money for a presidential election.
